Colony Locos on top in local derby

The Garioch Sports Centre, hosted a top of the league clash between U19 Colony Locos and Formartine United and both teams looked happy to be getting a game on the 3G surface while most juvenile fixtures were frozen off.

With both sides still undefeated going into the new year Formartine needed only a draw to remain top but Colony had their sights on going back to the summit.

Both sides looked a little rusty after the winter break and the visitors started strongest with centre backs Abel and Woodgreaves having to be at their best with Formartines early attacks.

The hosts were controlling the match but Formartine looked dangerous on the counter attack and a series of corners for the Locos saw Woodgreaves effort go wide and soon after a great ball from Duguid was met by Dawson but again no goal. At the other end Colony Keeper Jordan Garrow pulled off a great save from a Fraser Aiken bullet and then denied Lewis Keith.

The first half seemed destined to end goal less until a great exchange between Watson and Burr opened up the Formartine defence and DUGUID coolly slid the ball home giving keeper Thomson no chance.

Colony started the second half with an ever strengthening wind in their faces but they continued to take the game to Formartine and it was no surprise that they added to their lead.

In what was the best piece of football of the day, the ball started with Kennedy at full back driving forward and beating several players before sliding the ball to the feet of striker Duguid however instead of shooting, he played a reverse pass back to KENNEDY, who finished well from inside the box.

Colony had a chance to get a killer third goal as Watson played a through ball to Wood but his effort from 10 yards brought out a superb save from Thomson.

As the game came to an end it finished on a bizarre note as Formartine pulled one back with the last kick of the game, however Jack Lendrum’s effort from the edge of the box appeared to land on the top of Garrows net and slide down the back but the referee felt it had gone in and awarded a goal much to everyone’s surprise.
