COLONY Park U16s had a free weekend on Saturday, but it was not the torrential rain that caused their match to be off, but the fact that no fewer than seven of the Club’s players were away representing the North Region Select in Dundee.
Colony Park U16 players Lukas Kennedy, Euan Abel, Phillip Woodgreaves, Joe Burr, Greg Wood, Alex Duguid and Luke Munro travelled south with the hard task of facing two games in one day.
The first match was against the East Region Select and it was Colony’s Euan Abel who opened the scoring early in the second half, volleying home a corner. The North team then went on to dominate the match and ended up convincing 4-0 winners.
With less than an hours break the North side were back in action against the South East Region knowing a win would take them into next weeks final in Glasgow.
Once again it was a Colony player who opened the scoring, Lukas Kennedy firing in from 25 yards. Moments later Alex Duguid won a penalty which was scored to extend the North Region’s lead.
The South East pulled a goal back early second half, and with the North players legs starting to tire it looked like South East would go on to win the game, but in a rare breakaway Huntly’s David Clark made it 3-1 for the North Region.
A disputed goal brought the score back to 3-2 and it became a very nervy last ten minutes but North Region held out and now to go on to next weeks final at Toryglen in Glasgow where they will face the West Region.
All seven Colony Park players played their part and did their Club and the North Region proud, and hopefully they will all feature in next weeks final.
