Colony Park had recorded their best win of the season 3-1 winners against PMAC Group Div 1 East league leaders Buchanhaven Hearts to get their league challenge back on track.
With eight wins from eight the north side looked to be running away with the league so Colony needed something special to halt their rivals.
The half opened with Buchanhaven on top recording three chances before Dorrat and Ross threatned for Colony. The visitors lost striker Danton to injury on 17 minutes, Ritchie replacing him.
Buchanhaven were awarded a free kick on the right wing on the 27 minute mark and from the kick Zander DAVIDSON headed the Hearties into the lead. A minute later Ritchie had a shot wide and soon after Buchanhaven forced another corner which the Colony defence was able to clear and the league leaders looked to increase their advantage. With ten minutes to the interval Brown had a shot over the bar as Colony worked their way back into the match and in 39 minutes Adam Maitland, Dorrat combined well to put Strachan through on goal but his shot was just wide of the post. From the goal-kick Colony won the ball back and Bobby Maitland made a good break on the right, crossing an excellent ball to his brother Adam MAITLAND who hit a great shot into the corner of the net to bring the sides level. There were no more chances going into the interval with the teams level at 1-1.
Colony Park started the second half in style. Brown hit a long cross towards the Buchanhaven box that found Greg DORRAT, under pressure from the Hearts defenders, the tall striker produced an excellent header guided into the corner of the net giving Park a 2-1 lead two minutes after the re-start.
Colony continued to take the game to the Hearts with Ness hitting a good shot which MacDonald saved. In 71 minutes a Ross shot was turned round the post for a corner to Colony. From the corner Dorrat headed against the bar. MacDonald continued to shine in goal for Buchanhaven making saves from Adam Maitland and Dorrat in 77 minutes.
In 80 minutes Buchanhaven forced a corner which the Colony Park defence was able to defend with Roddy Mess rising above all others to head clear. Strachan then a good opportunity but MacDonald again made an excellent save. With eight minutes remaining the much expected third goal duly arrived. Jack STRACHAN ran on to a ball from Dorrat and placed the ball wide of MacDonald to give Colony Park a 3-1 lead which they could not extend although they should have added to it had Park not cleared a Dorrat effort off the line.
Overall, an excellent win for Colony Park against the best team they have played in the league this season albeit they remain seven points behind the leaders. The goals from Maitland, Dorrat and Strachan were the icing on the cake of what was a good team performance.
