COLONY Park Juniors looked to continue their recent good form and run of results against Buckie Rovers at the weekend, with several changes in the starting line up allowing the management to do some squad rotation for this GA Engineering Inter Regional Cup tie.

The Juniors worked hard to win the First Round match 4-0 against a strong Buckie Rovers team relegated into their division last term and already being touted as favourites for the league .

From the off it was a high tempo match with some slick passing and movement by both sides and in the first ten minutes it was end to end play before both teams settled down to try and win the battles in midfield.

Buckie had an early shot blocked before Colony opened the scoring in the 11th minute. Greg Dorrat won a ball on the right wing about thirty yards from goal and knocked it towards the goal line with the full back in pursuit. DORRAT then cut into the Buckie box beating the defender before placing the ball precisely past the keeper to cap a wonderful solo effort.

Buckie had a shot saved by Sim in the 23rd minute, and a couple of minutes later Colony had a great chance to increase their lead when Bobby Maitland stretched for a high ball on the right of the six yard box and directed the ball towards McDonald but his goal-bound low header was as well saved by the Buckie keeper and scrambled clear by the defence.

At the start of the second half Colony Park immediately started to take control of the game. In 51 minutes Hart won the ball in midfield and laid it off to Dorrat who then found Hart who had made a run into the right side of the box. Hart crossed the ball for McDONALD to drive the ball into the net and put Colony two nil up.

Two minutes later, a solo effort by STRACHAN ended with a great strike beating the Buckie keeper to put Colony into a three goal lead and taking the game out of sight for the visitors. With the benefit of a healthy lead Colony continued to attack and Maitland had a good shot saved. Donald replaced Roddie on 66 minutes. Another good Colony passing move ended in Dorrat’s shot being saved by the Buckie keeper.

The action continued in the Buckie goalmouth with Dorrat having another good effort, a Buckie defender struck the ball on to his own bar and Graffan almost scored but his shot was blocked. On 76 minutes Christie replaced Strachan and McLeod replaced McDonald. Two minutes later HART scored Colony’s fourth when he made a run into the six yard box and despite having two defenders and the keeper around him he managed to squeeze the ball into the net to give Colony a four goal lead. Colony attacked through to final whistle with further efforts from Dorrat, Christie, Hart and Brown but they could not increase the lead.

Overall a very good win for Colony Park, who now progress to the next round of the GA Engineering Cup.
