COLONY Park Juniors lost their first league match in 2014 when a late goal ensured that Cruden Bay took the full points, winning 2-1 in this PMac Div 1 East encounter.

Colony Park started brightly and had a couple of early corners. Colony came close to scoring in 25 minutes when a Roddie free kick saw Adam Maitland pick up the ball and his shot was just over the bar.

Cruden Bay forced their first corner in 27 minutes but the Colony defence were able to clear.

After a period of the match mainly being concentrated in the midfield, Colony took the lead when the ball dropped to Ross CROSBIE in 38 minutes and his deflected shot went into the corner of the net to give Colony Park a deserved lead.

Strachan picked up an elbow in the ribs but opted to play on and his clever back heel three minutes from the interval was saved by the Cruden Bay keeper. The Cruden Bay defence held out to go in with a single goal deficit despite Colony dominating possession and territory.

Within a couple of minutes of the start of the second half Cruden Bay equalized when James GIBB found space on the right of the penalty area and placed the ball into the corner of the Colony net.

Colony had a couple of unsuccessful attempts before Bonarius replaced the injured Adam Maitland on the hour mark.

Both teams now pressed for the lead with Cruden Bay much more in the match than they had been in the first half.

In 87 minutes Sim brought off an excellent save when the Cruden bay forward was one on one with the keeper. However he had no chance when once again he was left one on with Nicky TAIT in the 90th minute and the Cruden Bay player calmly placed the ball in the net to give Cruden Bay a 2-1 win.

Colony Park probably paid the price for not killing this match off in the first half when they were the dominant team. Cruden Bay fought back well in the second half and in the end deserved their win. Colony remain four points clear in the lead of PMac Div 1 East but Bridge of Don Thistle have four games in hand.
