A double from Andy Hunter helped Inverurie Locos to a comfortable 3-0 win over Strathspey Thistle at Harlaw Park on Saturday.

Locos bounced back from their 2-1 defeat by Huntly and inflicted the Jags first loss on their league travels this season.

Striker Martin Bavidge put their improved performance down to playing at a better tempo and settling down once they were ahead.

He said: “We started much better than in our previous game and we played at a better tempo and once we went in front then we really settled down.

“It was important to put the defeat to Huntly to bed.”

The visitors were first to threaten when Josh Peters latched on to a pass from James McKay and his effort came back off the inside of the post. But Locos took the lead in the 12th minute when Hunter produced a good finish after Thistle failed to clear a corner.

Home keeper Scott Mathieson did well to save a shot from Mackay while at the other end poor defending lead to Locos stretching their lead.

Joe McCabe nipped the ball away from Jack Maley and David Ross applied the finishing touch. Locos were never in danger in the second half and Hunter made it 3-0 with his second of the game in the 70th minute with a simple back post finish.

All in all a satisfying display by the home side who have now won half and lost half of their opening six fixtures.

Next up for Locos is Forres Mechanics, who lost 5-1 at home to league leaders Cove Rangers at the weekend.
