Formartine United were denied a win at Forres by a last-gasp equaliser on Wednesday night.
United were leading 2-1 when the Can-Cans struck in the 90th minute.
The Pitmedden side were left counting the cost of several missed chances in what was an entertaining match.
Mechanics took the lead in the sixth minute when Lee Fraser took advantage of a rebound to volley past Shearer.
Formartine drew level in the 20th minute following a spell of sustained pressure. Dan Park latched onto a pass from Mike Ewen and hammered the ball home.
A measure of the balance of play was that by half-time United had won eight corners without conceding any.
Into the second half and Formartine produced wave after wave of attack but somehow a combination of anxious attempts at finishing, luck, and backs-to-the-wall resistance by the home side contrived to keep them at bay.
However, the Pitmedden side finally went in front in the 81st minute. A Mathers ball into the box found the predatory Ewen and he sent it neatly past Knight.
But there was to be a dramatic finish. With time running out, Forres made it 2-2 when substitute Andrew Fraser netted from close range after the ball had bobbled around a packed penalty box.
