Locos ‘delighted’ to extend keeper Reid’s contract

INVERURIE Locos say they are delighted to announce that Andy Reid has signed a contract extension. The deal will see the goalkeeper remain at Harlaw Park until at least the summer of 2016.

Inverurie Locos co-manager Scott Buchan was delighted to announce the deal, saying “All at Locos are delighted that Andy Reid has decided to commit the next three years of his playing career to the club. In our eyes Andy is the best goalkeeper in the league so it was a no-brainer for us to offer him the opportunity to continue and it would appear it was a no-brainer for Andy also as he signed immediately.

“Andy works hard at his game, is always at training and is always giving 100 per cent. He is exactly the type of professional individual we want at Locos and we know he will continue to improve and get better because he wants to. An extremely popular guy in both the dressing room and on the terraces I’m sure the Locos supporters will be delighted to hear this news.

“What we believe we need in order to be successful is stability and continuity and for everyone to be given the chance to grow together. There has been far too much player turnover at the club in the last few years and we don’t think there is any coincidence that in that period there has been no silverware at Harlaw.

“We see Andy as a huge part of that stability moving forward as he has proved to be a top class keeper over the years and each successful team certainly requires one of them. We have the personnel and numbers now at the club who can form the nucleus of Locos squad for the next four to five years and that is vitally important”.

Reid had the difficult task of filling the shoes of Paul Jarvie whom he replaced when he joined from Forfar Athletic on a three year deal. A Scottish U-19 cap, he arrived at the Loons having had prior experience as part of the Soccer Academy at Notts Forest, then full time at Motherwell under Terry Butcher. Reid featured in the first team squad at Hibs before Montrose in 2005. Earlier this season he was on loan at Turriff United.

This Saturday after an enforced postponement break Locos start the first of their festive fortnight flings when they entertain Formartine United at Harlaw Park. It goes without saying Steve Paterson’s side have a great record at Inverurie and are fellow title contenders

Despite being the final Saturday before Christmas a huge crowd is to be expected, and kick-off is at 3pm.
