INVERURIE Locos retained the Inverurie Challenge Cup following a comprehensive 8-0 victory over junior neighbours Colony Park at a cold and wet Harlaw Park on Wednesday (September 12).

An in form Jack STRACHAN got the ball rolling as early as the 4th minute, latching on to Clark Bain’s forward ball, rounding Michael McKinnon and rolling the ball home. It could have been two within a minute as John Maitland latched on to a poor passback but the goalkeeper touched the ball on to the outside of his post and out for a flag kick.

Jack STRACHAN made it 2-0 in 14 minutes, controlling capain Neil McLean’s pass on the right side of the box and slotting into the corner. Within five minutes a raking Jamie Michie pass picked out Nicky Gordon on the left. The speedy frontman worked himself into position before curling the ball on to the crossbar, Jack STRACHAN right on hand to blast the rebound home.

Inside three minutes Graeme STEWART connected with a ball from the left, the ball trickling over the line to make it four, then full back Michie scooped an effort on to the crossbar

Ex Loco Adam Maitland brought out a fine save from Daniel Bell while at the other end it would have been a spectacular goal if Michie had finished his keepie uppie into the box with a more accurate left foot finish.

The deadly Jack STRACHAN was again well placed in the box to hammer home his fourth and team’s fifth in 35 minutes, and kept going, turning a pass from Neil Gauld round the keeper but just past the post.

Another sweet Locos move in 39 minutes brought goal number six, John MAITLAND swerving a shot with his right foot on the rebound in off the post.

Daniel Bell had to be sharp to stop Adam Maitland getting a consolation after a rare loose square ball from McLean, however it was 7-0 in 54 minutes, another driving Michie run, the pass to Strachan and the squared ball rolled home by sub Andy BAGSHAW.

Greg Dorrat missed a gilt edged chace for Colony then it was back to the other end where Bagshaw cracked the ball off the crossbar from close range. Strachan was still looking to add to his tally but was thwarted by the keeper. The final goal came right on full time, sub Scott Begg cutting the ball back for Andy BAGSHAW to tap home.
