The tone was set in the third minute when Jack Strachan’s turn and shot brought out a fine save from Robbie Donaldson.

Two minutes later and the keeper denied John Maitland and by the eighth minute Scott Begg had racked up the visitors third effort on target. Strathspey worked hard and created their first opening on the 16thminute when Matty Bobrowski warmed the hands of Stewart Gray.

However the game quickly swung to the other end as the Locos went in front a minute later, Clark BAIN striking a wonderful volley from the edge of the box that left Donaldson helpless.

A set piece delivery found Keiran Adams in the box and his looping header was well dealt with by the keeper as the Red and Blacks looked for a quick second goal.

Strathspey were still a threat and Stewart Gray made a brilliant save to deny Allan Mackenzie marking his contract with a goal.

The half ended with a flurry of chances. Steven Park was thwarted by a point blank save before a long range effort from Scott Begg flew just over the bar. Clark Bain recorded another shot on target but right at the death Strath could well have levelled when a ball in from the right was met by Matty Bobrowski but he failed to convert.

The next goal was going to be crucial to how the second half developed and it went to the Locos seven minutes after the break. A slick interchange between Jack Strachan and Andy BAGSHAW saw the latter slot home number two. Both keepers made a fine save before fine link play between the forward substitutes led to Steven PARK completing the scoring in the 69thminute with his first goal of the campaign to lift the Locos up to 6th. They are level on points with Deveronvale, Formartine and Brora Rangers who are spread from 4thto 7th.

After the match Locos co boss Scott Buchan said of the win, “It was really one way traffic from start to finish but I may be seeing things through red and black tinted glasses. They did have a couple of breakaways but nothing that our goalkeeper and defence couldn’t deal with.

“We played really well, the guys went about their business in a professional manner, we had numerous chances and their goalkeeper made some great saves.

“The strikers are having healthy completion for places, Andy Bagshaw and Jack Strachan have continued their good partnership. Andy for me was the best player on the park, a great second goal from him. Later on we have had the luxury of putting on Neil Gauld and Stuart McKay who’ve combined to create the third goal.”

This Saturday, despite the Scotland v Serbia game being played at the same time its Locos v Vale at Harlaw Park, kick off 3pm. Always a mouthwatering encounter.
