Formartine United continued their pre-season friendlies with an impressive 3-1 win at East Stirling on Saturday.
United with a host of new signings in their line-up were in control throughout against their League Two opponents.
The workrate, determination and organisation achieved so early in the rebuilding process augers well for the campaign ahead.
A brisk wind assisted the home side but it was Formartine who did most of the early pressing and the corner count was 8-3 in their favour.
United deservedly took the lead in the 18th minute with a goal of real verve and flair.
The influential Anderson, lurking on the edge of the box, hammered in a vicious, dipping drive which left the trialist keeper with no chance.
Formartine were setting a tempo which Shire struggled to match and they went further ahead in the 36th minute.
Full back Stuart Smith, who as well as performing his defensive duties immaculately, put in a power of work with blistering overlap runs down the flank. From a corner he timed it perfectly to send home a powerful header.
United missed the chance to go three up before the interval.
Gauld broke into the box and with only the keeper to beat was brought down by Tully for a penalty.
The striker took the kick himself but his low shot rebounded from the keeper’s heels to safety.
The second half saw the introduction of Lawson for Bagshaw.
Shire went about trying to get back in the match and they were rewarded three minutes after the restart.
A corner posed problems in the United box and the muscular McKenna took advantage to force the ball over the line.
This gave Shire a boost but Formartine were still the better side and moved further in front in the 63rd minute.
Barbour outpaced Greene and Tully yet again and clipped the ball into the goalmouth for Wood to apply the finishing touch.
The game as contest was now done and dusted and shape and form began to give way to the need to experiment with different combinations of substitutes. Formartine continued to dominate as the clock ran down.
