Sunnybank set-back for Colony Juniors

COLONY Park Juniors suffered a setback in their latest match in the PMAC Division 1 going down to Aberdeen team Sunnybank by 3 goals to 1.

Colony were caught cold in the first minute when PAGE was one on one with Sim and he calmly lobbed the ball over the oncoming keeper to give Sunnybank an early lead.

The Colony defenders protested that Page was offside but the goal was given by the referee. Colony almost hit back immediately when following a good move down the left Calvin Roddie had his shot saved by the Bank keeper.

Sunnybank were stopped from going further ahead in five minutes when Sim brought off a brilliant save and the ball cleared for a corner. Colony worked their way back into the match with chances for Graffan and Smith but the Sunnybank defence held firm and in 25 minutes they extended their lead. DOUGLAS picked up a loose ball 25 yards from goal and hit a great strike into the top right hand corner giving Sim no chance of saving the shot. Sunnybank were now on top and they further extended their lead in 34 minutes when PAGE ended a move down the left by placing the ball past Sim.

Colony Park changed formation at the start of the second half going to three at the back. Robinson had a shot just wide early in the half while in 53 minutes Sim had a tremendous save when it looked as though Sunnybank would extend their lead.

In 59 minutes McDonald was brought down in the box and Colony Park were awarded a penalty. Roddie took the kick which was well saved by the Sunnybank keeper. Despite the setback Colony continued to push forward. Crosbie had a free kick well saved and Roddie had a shot blocked. McDonald had a shot saved in 63 minutes and the Sunnybank defence held tight successfully working the offside trap on a number of occasions. In 81 minutes Graffan’s shot hit the bar but three minutes later Glen GRAFFAN scored from close range to narrow Sunnybank’s lead. This was Colony‘s last effort on target and they were lucky not to lose further goals through defensive errors.

Overall Sunnybank deserved their win but Colony Park remain top of the PMAC Div 1 despite the loss. On Saturday 26 October Colony Park are at away against Lewis United in the Scottish Junior Cup Round 2. Kick off is at 2.30pm at Aberdeen Sports Village.
