Inverurie Loco Works extended their unbeaten run to ten games with a comfortable 5-1 win at Huntly on Saturday, after the game finally went ahead after three pitch inspections.

Locos went with the same starting eleven which beat Formartine United the week before, but had the added bonus of the presence of the returning Scott Begg, Dean Donaldson and David Ross on the bench.

Huntly made changes following their win at Keith ,Michael Hart and Russell Guild returned as Lewis Ingram dropped down onto the bench while there was no place in the squad for transfer-listed Andrzej Kleczkowski.

Early on Locos should have taken the lead when Martin Bavidge laid the ball on a plate for his strike partner Neil Gauld but the former Huntly forward sliced the ball off-target from close range.

The visitors went ahead in the ninth minute when a corner kick was not cleared and former Huntly defender Ross ANDERSON struck an effort sweetly which took a deflection off Craig Dorrat on its way in to beat Shaun Barney

Four minutes later the lead was doubled when Mark Souter and Jordan Leyden linked up down the left flank . Leyden’s inch perfect cross finding Martin BAVIDGE who bulleted in a free header to take his tally to fifteen for the season.

The hosts pulled one back in the 22ndminute when a Paweł Nowacki corner kick was flicked on by Michael Hart and David BOOTH nodded in at the back post, poor defending for Locos for once.

Booth had the chance to level things just four minutes later. Neale Davidson turned away from his marker Marc Young inside the box and was clipped from behind by the left back. Booth’s penalty let him down badly, it was softly taken allowing Andy Reid got down low to save.

Just after the half-hour mark a long free kick from Dorrat was met by the head of Hart was played up front and Reid did well to turn behind. Hart came close himself before the interval when he received a Booth lay-off only to fire wide on the turn.

Four minutes into the half a Neale Davidson shot produced a fantastic stop from Reid and when the rebound fell to Hart he could only find the side-netting.

Having weathered the storm late half and early second, it was now time for Locos to take up the reins again. Neil MCLEAN did well to get forward from midfield in the 51stminute and with nobody matching his run he got on the end of a Leyden pass to finish with a low drive.

Six minutes later Nowacki gave the ball away down the wing and a quick counter saw the Huntly defence exploited , Leyden again doing the spadework getting to the bye line and Neil GAULD driving in yet another to continue his great campaign.

A good save from Barney prevented a further goal when he turned a Bavidge shot behind while a good passing move at the other end almost saw another goal for the hosts. Hart played a diagonal pass out to Hrvoje Kovačević and a diving header from Booth was turned away by yet another fine save from Reid.

Locos wrapped up the scoring with five minutes to go when a great piece of individual play from Dean DONALDSON saw the substitute beat two challenges before curling in from a tight angle.

A great stop from Shaun Barney with a minute left saw the keeper turn away a John Maitland shot after the home defence again failed to pick up.
