Colony Juniors Glen Graffin celebrates scoring against Fochabers. The 5-1 win sees Colony move to the top of the league.

COLONY Park Juniors completed their fifth win in a row when they beat Fochabers 5-1 away from home on Saturday (February 23).

In the early exchanges Fochabers went on the offensive and they surprised the Colony defence, when at the end of a good move, they took a goal lead after six minutes, the first goal Colony had conceded in 380 minutes of football.

In 16 minutes Duguid brought off a brilliant save to thwart Fochabers from adding to their lead before, on 21 minutes, Adam Maitland hit great shot which was saved well by the Fochaber’s keeper.

Five minutes later long ball out from a Colony free kick was missed by the Fochabers defender allowing the ball to go through to Adam MAITLAND who calmly hit the ball over the Fochabers keeper.

With Colony now level they upped the pace and for the remainder of the first half they threw everything at Fochabers scoring goals through GRAFFAN in 32 minutes when he latched on to a good low cross from Roddie; BONARIUS in 42 minutes directly from a free kick and RODDIE in 44 minutes when he capitalised on a mistake by a Fochabers defender.

At half time Colony had a 4-1 lead thanks to four goals in eighteen minutes.

In the second half Colony continued to take the game to Fochabers with shots from McDonald, Roddie and A Maitland. McLeod replaced Roddie on the hour mark and he had a shot well saved a couple of minutes after coming on and Douglas replaced Crosbie after 65 minutes and Hart replaced Brown on 70 minutes.

Colony continued to attack and there were further chances for Graffan, Bonarius and Hart, but Colony had to wait until 79 minutes following clever play by A Maitland the ball broke to BONARIUS whose well placed shot found the corner of the net.

This was the only goal of the second half although Colony had a couple of late opportunities to extend their lead.

It was Colony’s fifth win in a row, although it was their hardest match against Fochabers who showed a lot of spirit especially in the first half.

The win now puts Colony Park top of the PMac League Div 2 with a two point cushion from Buckie Rovers.

This Saturday, March 2, Colony are at home to Newmachar United at Colony Park, kick-off is at 2pm.
