COLONY Park FC held their 22nd annual dinner at Inverurie Town Hall on Friday night. Guests and sponsors heard from keynote speaker John Hartson and North-east comedian Patrice.

John Hartson, assistant manager of Wales and a much-travelled footballer, is also widely recognised as a major figure in the UK in raising awareness of testicular cancer, as he defied the odds to survive the condition.

With stints at several clubs including Arsenal, West Ham and Celtic, the former Welsh internationalist with 51 caps, is now also a TV commentator, columnist and after dinner speaker.

He described his rollercoaster career with some humorous stories but was warmly applauded when he described his fight with cancer which he continues through the John Hartson Foundation.

Chairman Dave Mitchell said: “The combination of speakers was as well received as I can ever remember and we are hopeful that the event will have raise much-needed funds towards the running of the club. We would like to host a larger event next year but we will get feedback from our sponsors before we change the format.

“Once again I would like to thank all those who work tirelessly to make this event a success - 22 years on its fantastic to continue to get support from the community.
