League Cup draw made at Harlaw Park

THE first ever Breedon Aggregates sponsored Highland League Cup draw, drawn at Harlaw Park Inverurie on Tuesday afternoon, produced some notable ties, starting in the first round where both of last season’s finalists have been handed away trips.

Holders Nairn County head to Strathspey Thistle, while Inverurie Locos play host to Fraserburgh. Both games will take place on Saturday, March 3.

Moving onto the second round, and the final from two years ago will be replicated at MacKessack Park when current Highland League leaders Forres Mechanics visit Rothes. Meanwhile there is a local derby at Christie Park between Huntly and Turriff United.

Meanwhile as far as derbies are concerned, much more could be on hand to follow at the quarter-final stage. Although complicated at this stage, there is potential for Buckie Thistle to face Deveronvale, and Steve Paterson’s Formartine United to visit either Turriff United or his old side Huntly if they can get beyond Fort William in Round Two.

The full draw is as follows:

First Round – March 3.

Strathspey Thistle v Nairn County; Inverurie Locos v Fraserburgh

Second Round – March 17.

Huntly v Turriff United; Fort William v Formartine United; Lossiemouth v Inverurie Locos / Fraserburgh; Cove Rangers v Clachnacuddin; Keith v Brora Rangers; Buckie Thistle v Strathspey Thistle / Nairn County; Rothes v Forres Mechanics; Deveronvale v Wick Academy.

Quarter-Finals – April 7.

Rothes / Forres v Keith/Brora Rangers; Cove Rangers / Clach v Lossiemouth / Inverurie / Fraserburgh; Huntly / Turriff United v Fort William / Formartine Utd; Buckie Thistle / Strathspey / Nairn County v Deveronvale / Wick Academy.
