Miley medal hattrick
LOCAL swimming star and RGU Sport Scholar, Hannah Miley, led the University swim team to success this weekend at the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) swimming long course championships.
The Inverurie Olympic hopeful struck gold in the 200m Individual Medley (IM), 400m IM and 200m Freestyle at the event held in Ponds Forge, Sheffield, on Saturday and Sunday (February. 11 and 12)
Hannah’s strong performance inspired fellow sport scholars, Andrew McGovern (Aberdeen) and Lizzie Hughes (Aberdeen), who took gold and bronze respectively in the mens 50m backstroke and womens 200m backstroke.
RGU President of Sport and Physical Activity, Nicola Scott, was in Sheffield with the swimming team. She commented: “It was a brilliant weekend with great swimming and team spirit. This is the best result RGU have had at a BUCS Championship and the team should be really proud of their efforts.”
Established in 2008, BUCS is the governing body for university sport in the UK and is responsible for organising 50 inter-university sports, including annual competitions for the 157 member universities and colleges.
