On Sunday Inverurie Locos Under 20s progressed to the Second Round of the Scottish Youth Cup after an energetic match at Harlaw Park , largely dominated by the home side but who had to rely on the penalty shoot out to see them through.

Locos dominated possession and territory from the off and passed up several opportunities and found the wood work not in their favour as they pressed for an opener and while the passing game was flowing and impressive the final ball was too often just not delivered to perfection.

As luck would have it Morgan Cook in the home goal only saw action picking the ball out of the net as a Nairn counter was poorly defended and allowed Max EWEN to score from close in.

The second half saw Locos continue to press the game and Reece BROWN headed locos back into the game with less than 20 minutes on the clock.

To the anguish of the Locos dugout Nairns second attack of the game produce another goal from Ryan McBean with the defence being caught square in a counter attack.

Locos wasted no time getting back on even terms and a sublime strike from well outside the box from Connor STRACHAN would have been worthy of winning any game but as the legs tired extra time never looked like it might produce a winner and so the match went to Penalties.

Mitchell Cheyne stepped up to expertly drive home the opening penalty and Macbean levelled.

Morgan Cook in the Locos goal made a supperb save to his right followed by another to his left and with Bolton, Lawrence and Grant making no mistake from the spot the Locos progressed from the shoot-out 4-1 winners.

They will now have Montrose as visitors on Sunday October 1st with a2pm kick off scheduled.
