RISING swimming star Emily Jones returned home to Inverurie after a very successful British Gas ASA Youth Championships at Pond Forge in Sheffield.

The Garioch Amateur Swimming Club member managed to reach five finals out of six events she swam in over the five days last week, and came home with two medals and a new Scottish record time.

On Wednesday, (July 18) Emily won the bronze medal in the 15/16 year final of the 100m Butterfly in a time of 1:01.18. This lowered the Scottish Age Group Record which she previously held.

The following day, Thursday (July 19) saw Emily claim her second bronze in the 15/16 year final of the 200m Breaststroke. And, even more impressively, her time of 2:30.46 set a new Scottish Age Group Record.

Speaking after her return, Emily said that she was “pretty happy” with her results but knows that, in the future, she can improve. She did better than she expected in some events, but could have done better in others, but overall was “quite pleased” with the competition and that she enjoyed the week. She planned to return to training straight away, but intended to take a short break and enjoy a well-deserved holiday.

Garioch Amateur Swimming Club also had Robert Bryce taking part in Sheffield.
