More than 250 people turned up for Ellon Rugby’s Sponsored Fun Run at Aden Country Park, which raised more than £4500.

All age groups took part from the old boys (Ythan Bears), 1st XV, youth and junior players, including the newly-formed three-year-olds Rugby Rascals.

The main event was a one-hour run/jog/walk around a 700-metre track. Fraser Cruickshank completed most with 24 laps.

Following a BBQ and soft drinks, various games took place including a mixed age obstacle course, tug-o-war, touch rugby and rugby
rounders.

Money on the day from the BBQ and sponsorship amounted to £4500, with more still to come in.

It will be spent on youth development in
the North-east,

Ellon, which has the district’s largest catchment area, employ a development officer and a modern apprentice to assist in club coaching, but mostly community coaching
and support.

The club are looking for a sponsor for the development officer and modern apprentice for next season.
