Ellon Bowling Club held their annual finals day on Sunday and attracted a good crowd to watch the final of the gents and ladies singles.

Both ties were a repeat of last year with defending ladies champion Maureen Sinclair taking on her daughter Gillian in the final of the ladies championship and in the gents singles final holder Alistair Campbell was up against last year’s finalist Mike Stephen. Maureen Sinclair retained her crown with a comprehensive 21-4 victory against Gillian and she also won the club 2 bowl pairs with Albert Low over the weekend.

In the Club Championship it was Mike Stephen that emerged victorious with a 21-13 victory against Alistair Campbell.

It is Campbell’s first defeat in the final of the gents singles and, although he was disappointed to lose out, he did gain an impressive victory over Stephen earlier in the week when he won the Club Handicap Singles 21-19.

There was more success for the Campbell family when Alistair’s son Grant retained the Belhelvie Invitation Triples.

He teamed up with Connor Milne (Tarves) and Andrew Thompson (Westhill) to take the title for a second successive year.

They defeated Methlick in the final on Sunday.

The Ladies Handicap Singles at Ellon was won by Kathleen Gordon who defeated Ann Singer 21-20 in the final.

The women’s pairs was won by Ann Singer and Ellen Bartlet who secured victory with the last bowl of the match against Enid Smith and Mary Legge. The senior singles was won by Albert Low who defeated Jim Logan in the final.
