INVERURIE’S own swimming star Hannah Miley was in typically impressive form at the Scottish Gas National Open Swimming Championships held at the Tollcross International Swimming Centre.
Hannah won six gold medals and also set a season’s best 4:35.48 in her favoured 400m Individual Medley. Along with the 400m IM, Hannah also took gold in the 200m IM (2:12.94), 800m Freestyle (8:36.49), 400m Freestyle (4:11.69), 200m Breaststroke (2:30.61) and 200m Butterfly (2:12.66).
And she is hitting top form at just the right time with the British Gas Swimming Championships, also being held at Tollcross in Glasgow, which run from April 10 to 15, and of course the Commonwealth Games later this year. Hannah has already swam Commonwealth Games qualifying times for both the 200m and 400m Individual Medleys, the 800m Freestyle but admitted she was disappointed she didn’t add another qualifying time in the 200m Butterfly.
Ally Whike, Performance Director of Scottish Swimming said, “Overall it’s been a positive Championships. This is the first of two phase one selection meets and there are still a number of Team Scotland places up for grabs next week. I think we’re still to see plenty of twists and turns at the British Championships and I’m looking forward to seeing the swimmers stepping up their level of performance once again.”
