Twenty-nine Aberdeenshire bowling clubs are amongst 182 clubs across Scotland taking part in Bowls Scotland’s Try Bowls campaign this summer.

Clubs across the City and Shire have signed up to the campaign to get more people of all ages playing bowls at their local clubs.

Local clubs taking part include Cruden Bay, Ellon, Harlaw (Inverurie), Insch, Inverurie, Kemnay, Kintore, Methlick, Millbank, Oldmeldrum, and Pitmedden.

Over 100 bowling clubs capitalised on the heightened post Games interest in the sport by offering Try Bowls last summer. And as a result many clubs across the country reported increases in memberships.

This year the number of clubs taking part is far higher. Bowls Scotland is leading Try Bowls by helping clubs spread the word in their communities, providing posters for clubs to advertise locally, and creating a website to help people easily locate their local participating club.

Try Bowls 2015 officially starts this weekend when a number of clubs across the country host open days. Bowls Scotland are particularly keen to get more youngsters involved, such as Inverurie’s Carla Banks, who has been selected to represent Scotland at the Commonwealth Youth Games.
