Young rugby players shine at Ellon

A mixture of snow, hail, wind and sun made for a testing Junior Rugby Tournament in Ellon at the weekend.

More than 500 pupils from Ellon, Garioch, Deeside, Aberdeen Wanderers, Aberdeen Grammar and Mackie took part in the event at the Meadows.

Micro head coach Iain Price organised 10 P3 teams into a tag festival on the astro-turf.

There were eight P4-7 teams at each age band and two leagues in each age band, organised by Junior head coach Gareth Kemp.

Gareth said: “It was so good to see the youngsters playing their hearts out and to such a high standard.

Thanks as always must go to all the coaches referees and helpers on the day.”

The league games were followed by semi-finals and finals, with first, second and third receiving a medal.

Ellon P5 were the best placed local team coming third, closely followed by Ellon P6 who were fourth, but only on first try scored in a
draw.
