GARIOCH Amateur Swimming Club’s youngest swimmers were in fine form on Sunday, (January 13) in the Dyce Mini-Meet at Northfield swimming pool, taking third place overall out of twenty teams and producing some first class individual performances.
It was an excellent team effort, given the relatively small group representing the club, and one that all the swimmers should be proud of. Of particular note were the following:
Anya Slessor (8): Gold in 25M freestyle; Hannah Strachan (10): Silver in 50M breaststroke; Isla Johnston (10): Fourth in 50M freestyle and a nine second PB in 100IM; Lauren Stewart (10): excellent performances in 50M back (Seventh) and 50M freestyle (Sixth); Finley Cousins (9): Gold in 50M breaststroke; Cameron Crawford (11): Gold in 50M freestyle, Silver in 50M backstroke; Mitchell Grant (9): Silver in 50M backstroke; Phelim McNally (11): Silver in 50M breaststroke, Bronze in 100IM; Bill Whitcombe (9): Gold in 50M backstroke; Silver in 50 freestyle.
Coaches, Eavan Adams and Mandi Crawford were justifiably proud of their swimmers, who not only swam confidently and with good technique, but also conducted themselves with appropriate regard to competition etiquette, supporting one another vociferously and enthusiastically, and interacting with their competitors in a friendly and respectful manner. Well done to all! Again, parents provided a number of officials and the club is grateful for their invaluable support. With further hard work and committed training, it is hoped that these young swimmers will continue to shine in the Club, providing future star performers.
