Ythan CCs junior rider Jordan Stronach was on his travels again at the weekend when he took part in the Veloclub Edinburgh GP over a hilly course near Penicuik contested over five laps.
Stronach held his position in the peloton until the last lap when he distanced from the main pack after the ascents and a brisk wind took its toll, but he completed the final lap to finish in 33rd place behind race winner Andrew Scorey (Berwick Wheelers).
Kingseats Veli Matti Raikonnen (Granite City RT) continued his fine run of form by claiming 8th overall.
Last Sunday saw a number of Ythan riders competing in the Ian Brodie Memorial 10 mile TT at Drumoak on the fast North Deeside-Crathes-South Deeside horseshoe course.
With the overnight rain clearing up just before the first rider rolled away from the start line the Ellon riders performed well with Colin Duncan, Bill Bavidge and Jordan Stronach all dipping under 23 minutes only to be undone by a mistake in the course measurement rendering their times invalid for recording purposes.
The same applied to all of the Ythan riders whose times varied from 27 minutes to mid 23 minute efforts. Phil Kelman (Deeside Thistle) took the overall honours with Stronach rounding off another good weekend by claiming the prize for 1st Junior along with 2nd overall in the handicap standings.
This weekend sees Stronach facing his biggest test of the season so far when he rides the Moray Firth 2 Day Stage Race on the Black Isle which consists of three stages including a testing final stage that takes in a number of steep ascents in the Cromarty area.
