Hot on the heels of UK Kettlebell Pentathlon Champion Alan Lyon’s recent success, a 10 strong team of lifters from Garioch Kettlebells (GKB) went down to the first Scottish Kettlebell Pentathlon Open competition at Forth Valley Kettlebells in Alloa on the Sunday (May 4).
The team trained intensively for a number of weeks under Head Instructor Alan’s guidance, and whilst the majority of the team were attending their first competitive event GKB had a hugely successful day, claiming top spots in the Women’s and Men’s competitions and second and fifth places in the men’s event, with all team members performing well throughout.
The women’s competition was won by Alaine Ross who had a phenomenal score of 1000.5 points, becoming the first woman in the UK to break the 1000 point barrier.
The men’s event was won by Alan Lyon who added the Scottish title to his UK crown with a score of 1649 points which was 56 up on his score at the UK Championships. Alan was followed by Graeme Hay who clinched second place with a personal best performance of 1350 points making it a 1-2 for the Garioch team. Murray Anderson from GKB had a very strong performance to claim fifth place.
Alan was very pleased with the results of all the team members, he said “The team spirit and mutual support everyone gave was a great advertisement for the sport and what the group are trying to achieve through our Kettlebells Fitness classes at Garioch Sports Centre.
It is very much open to all and we are now considering hosting a similar Scottish open event to showcase what we do in Inverurie in September.”
