Stage star and X-Factor semi finalist Niki Evans is all set to swap her mini-skirt, multi-coloured tights and wild hair for a housewife’s overalls and scarf for her latest role.

For the actress, who graced His Majesty’s Theatre in Aberdeen as zany hairdresser Paulette in Legally Blonde the Musical, will return to the city stage in the powerful and heartrending role of Mrs Johnstone in Blood Brothers.

She will play the deserted housewife struggling to bring up seven children alongside Marti Pellow as the Narrator in Willy Russell’s award-winning play – which has been voted the Most Popular British Musical of All Time – at HMT from Monday to Saturday, November 19 to 24.

And she will be reprising a poignant performance which wowed Aberdeen audiences when the show last played the theatre two years ago.

Blood Brothers, which has scooped up no less than four awards for best musical in London and seven Tony Award nominations on Broadway, tells the moving story of twin boys separated at birth, only to be reunited, by a twist of fate and a mother’s haunting secret.

The memorable score includes A Bright New Day, Marilyn Monroe and the emotionally charged hit Tell Me It’s Not True.

When Mrs Johnstone is abandoned by her husband and left to provide for seven hungry children on her own she takes a job as a housekeeper in order to make ends meet.

It is not long before her brittle world crashes around her when she discovers herself to be pregnant yet again – this time with twins! In a moment of weakness and desperation, she enters a secret pact with her employer which leads inexorably to the show’s shattering climax.

Blood Brothers is directed by Bob Tomson and Bill Kenwright with designs by Andy Walmsley.

Tickets for Blood Brothers are available online at www.boxofficeaberdeen.com, by phone at 01224 641122 and at Aberdeen Box Office at the Music Hall and His Majesty’s Theatre.
