Businesses in Inverurie can get free support to cut out food waste and save money during Food Waste Prevention Week.
The events are organised by experts from Zero Waste Scotland’s Resource Efficient Scotland programme, as part of a nationwide drive to reduce food waste, and are being delivered in partnership with Aberdeenshire Council, and backed by funding from the Scottish Government and European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Zero Waste Scotland’s resource efficiency programme is funded by the Scottish Government and European Regional Development Fund to help small and medium sized businesses become more efficient.
Since the programme began in 2013, it has helped organisations in Aberdeenshire to identify over £2.4 million worth of yearly savings by reducing waste and cutting energy and water bills.
The week kicks off with a webinar to launch an exciting new initiative that will allow Inverurie businesses to distribute left over food to the local community and local charities, instead of binning it. The webinar will be broadcast live from 11am to 12 noon on Tuesday, February 20.
Inverurie businesses are then invited to join a half-day food waste prevention training workshop that will share the latest techniques and knowledge, and provide delegates with valuable new skills that will help them tackle food waste. The workshop will be held at JG Ross Bakers, Inverurie, on Wednesday, February 21 from 10am to 1.30pm.
Workshop attendees will also hear about successful local businesses that have already reduced waste and are now enjoying big savings, and they will also find out about the free support available from the Resource Efficient Scotland programme including one-to-one business support, interest free loans, and grants of up to £100,000 to fund waste prevention projects.
Other activities during Inverurie Food Waste Prevention Week include a ‘What’s in your kitchen?’ cookery demonstration and tasting session at Wyness Hall, on Thursday, February 22 from 6pm to 8pm. This session will provide tips to help locals make the most of the food in their fridge, freezer and cupboards.
