Planning Permission in Principle has been granted to demolish the abattoir and offices on Inverurie’s North Street and replace them with a new housing development.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Garioch Area Committee agreed to approve the development at their recent meeting on Tuesday, (November 11).
ANM Group Ltd applied for permission for the re-development of the site, and had carried out a Public Consultation at Inverurie Locos Works FC earlier this year outlining plans for 77 new houses, a mix of detached, semi-detached and terraced housing along with four block of flats. A proportion of affordable housing will be included in the development.
The application had generated four letters of representation, two against the development and two supporting.
ANM Group intend to relocate the business to a more appropriate site at Thainstone.
Historically there has been a slaughter house on the site for more than 100 years, but in the intervening years Inverurie has expanded so that the abattoir and offices are now surrounded by residential housing and Strathburn Primary School.
The authority to grant permission in principle was delegated to the Head of Planning and Building Standards.
