Pupils at Meldrum Academy have donated a large number of food boxes to Inverurie food bank.

In previous years the academy’s Interact group highlighted the growing need of members of the community relying on local food banks.

This year the school was contacted by Aberdeen Cyrenians to take part in their Harvest Festival.

The group also asked if the academy could organise a dress as you please day on October 7 to help raise money for the organisation.

The school liked the idea, but thought it could do that little bit more to help those in need.

The Interact group asked pupils to bring in non-perishable food items over a few weeks and they rose to the challenge and collected a huge amount of food.

Members of Meldrum’s Rotary delivered the food to the Cyrenians in Aberdeen.

This will help them to provide meals to many who are facing extreme hardship and are struggling to make ends meet.

The Interact group also donated £400 so that the Cyrenians could buy fresh food.
