AT the latest meeting of the Garioch Probus Club, President Derek Murray welcomed members and asked members present to give a congratulatory round of applause for member Walter Scott, who was celebrating his 97th birthday. Members responded to his call enthusiastically.
He then introduced speaker for the day, member Alan Thomson. In 2011 Alan and his wife Moira enjoyed a tour of New Zealand’s South Island, a ‘Wild South’ tour, under the auspices of the International ‘41 Club.
In his beautifully illustrated presentation Alan took his audience round the South Island, whose many tourist attractions, man-made and natural, provided a memorable holiday as they traveled round the Island, by land and water transport.
An additional ‘extra’ to their wonderful holiday, albeit an unwanted one, was the Earthquake of April 2011, which meant that they could not visit the city of Christchurch, which suffered great damage from this natural disaster.
An excellent presentation was appreciated by Probus members.
