Online access guide for disabled

ABERDEENSHIRE Council has teamed up with disability organisation DisabledGo to produce a 1000-venue access guide to the area.

It will feature detailed access information for buildings and venues including shops, banks, restaurants, council buildings, public transport and tourist attractions.

The first phase of the guide will include Balmoral Castle, Haddo House, the Grampian Museum of Transport, Macduff Marine Aquarium.

DisabledGo provides access information for over 100,000 venues across the UK and Ireland. Work on the guide is now underway, with trained surveyors working alongside local disabled people employed by DisabledGo to visit the 1000 buildings and compile access information.

The guide, which is due to launch to the public in January, will enable people to find out not only whether venues have adapted toilets or parking close by but also specific details such as whether there are tactile or Braille markings in lifts or on doors, the dimensions of toilets,
