Reminisces of Coastal Command

PRESIDENT Derek Murray welcomed a good turnout to the latest meeting of the Garioch Probus Club.

He was pleased to report that the Annual Lunch of the Club on February 13 had been very successful, with the post-lunch “entertainment” from Ian Milne having been greatly appreciated by all present.

President Derek then introduced speaker for the day, member John Gallop. John’s presentation was entitled “Glimpses of RAF Coastal Command, he having enlisted in 1963, and in subsequent years saw service in Coastal Command in various areas of the world.

In his entertaining, and at times evocative, presentation, John mentioned a few of the well-remembered aircraft used by coastal command over their years of valuable service, eg Sunderlands, Catalinas, Shackletons and Lancasters, as well as recalling various “adventures” involving planes and personnel. He also outlined some of the technical improvements and developments over his years in service.

John’s presentation on his years in this vital service was both informative and good-humoured.
