Antiques Road Trip rolls into town
NEWMACHAR business Collecting the World rolled out the red carpet when BBC One’s Antiques Road Trip film crew and expert Christina Trevanion visited the Newmachar shop on Tuesday, (March 18) as part of series nine of the popular television programme.
Casting her trained eye round the large four roomed shop, operated by Brian Cheyne of Oldmeldrum, Christina Trevanion, an auctioneer with Hansen’s Auctioneers in Derbyshire finally settled on the purchase of a vintage wooden egg box made in Aberdeen and with various decals and railway stickers. She also bought an unusual small metal ore paperweight - a speculative purchase.
“Christina was very friendly and we talked at length about various potential purchases, notably a large flagon with a Dundee label and an Art Deco silver and onyx triangular brooch, though on seeing the egg box she feel in love with it and spent her final £60 on both lots.”
The BBC experts started their trip in Inverness and came south via antique shops in Auldearn and Huntly before Newnmachar and then headed off to the Arches Antiques Centre in Aberdeen, before heading south to sell their purchases in Blairgowrie with all proceeds going to charity.
The programme featuring the visit to Collecting the World in Newmachar is due to be televised in September this year.
Brian has operated the Newmachar collectables shop for the past year following a three year period selling collectables at Haddo House and has a very wide range of stock spread over four rooms.
Collecting the World is located at 33 Oldmeldrum Road, Newmachar and is open every Friday / Saturday and Sundays from 12 noon until 5pm.
