Around the North-east rural meetings

Kintore SWRI held its Mini Bulb Show on March 3.

President Frances Simond welcomed members, guests and ladies from Keithhall SWRI, who were judges, and the speaker Arthur Gill, a training officer from Aberdeen’s Duthie Park.

Mr Gill gave an excellent slideshow and talked about the history and restoration of the park.

The Rose Bowl for the most points was awarded to Mrs Evelyn Murray and Mrs Margaret Sim was awarded Best Exhibit in the show for her baby blanket.

After tea, raffles and the vote of thanks the meeting was closed.

The next meeting is on April 7, when it will be the AGM.

President Eileen Brown welcomed members and visitors to the March meeting of New Deer SWRI. Business was dealt with and Eileen then introduced Mr Ian McGregor, speaker for the evening. Ian is head of operations for the HMP Grampian at Peterhead.

Members were given a folder showing the layout of the prison, catering and medical facilities and prisoners’

accommodation. Men, women and soon young offenders will soon all be under one roof.

The facility replaced Aberdeen and Peterhead prisons and it has three hundred employees. Every prisoner is expected to work or take part in some other constructive activity. Mr McGregor ably answered various questions from members.

Tea was served and Eileen Morrice gave the vote of thanks.
