THE Benachie Bowling Association Junior Singles Competition was held on Sunday, June 10, at Vice-President Douglas Fraser’s Kintore Bowling Club.
Ten entries were received and an excellent show of bowling witnessed which was a pleasure to watch.
Pitmedden’s Leanne Mennie was first out of the draw to play Carla Banks. Having emerged the winner, she then had to play Carla’s brother Jason and although Leanne played some telling bowls, Jason went through to the next round, having beaten Harlaw’s Elliot Cameron in the previous round.
Making his first appearance in the competition, Kevin Murray from Westhill put up a very good show against Connor Milne from Tarves. Emily Gray of Kintore, also appearing for the first time, didn’t let herself down when she was beaten by Westhill’s Andrew Riley. Shaun Keith from Methlick had a close tussle with Inverurie’s Martyn Thomson, who ran out the eventual winner.
The two semi-finals were thrilling to watch with some big hitting and also some lovely drawing bowls. Jason Banks, already an established County player, managed to outdraw Andrew Riley and the game between Martyn Thomson and Connor Milne, which displayed some some great strikes from both players, ended in a win for Connor, also an established County player.
Jason and Connor will meet in the final which will take place at Tarves Bowling Club on Benachie Finals Day on Sunday, August 21.
