Inverurie will be saying bonjour to Bagneres-de-Bigorre this October when it is officially twinned with the French town.
The twinning of the two towns follows more than a year of hard work by the Inverurie Twinning Group headed by Fiona and Archie Peebles with the help of local councillors.
Hamish Vernal, Aberdeeneshire Provost and Inverurie councillor, said: “It will bring a number of positive aspects, one being education with school links and there will be sports links through the sports hub.
“There will also be a social and cultural element with greater understanding of the different cultures and possibly some businesses links.”
Susan Adams, the Area Project Manager for Garioch, said that the twinning was a community led initiative with herself and the council helping where they could.
She said: “There’s businesses links, there’s school links, there’s community links, it’s a real positive for Inverurie and it will benefit nearly every aspect of the community.”
