MELDRUM House Country House and Golf Course, has been awarded a prestigious regional Scottish Thistle Award at a glittering award ceremony held at Battleby in Perth on Tuesday, June 4.
Beating off stiff competition from The Parklands Hotel and the Hilton Dunkeld House, the award-winning Meldrum House won the Best Hotel award.
Organised by VisitScotland, and hosted by the national tourism organisation’s Regional Director, Richard Pinn and co-host Bernard Murphy, General Manager at the Gleneagles Hotel, the regional format of the awards recognises the exceptional efforts made by tourism businesses throughout Scotland.
Winners in each category will go on to represent their respective regions at the gala national ceremony in November 15, and, as with 2012, come together with the winners of Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards.
Shona Anderson, Regional Director of VisitScotland, said, “Today’s event is a tremendous accolade to the quality of the tourism experience across Aberdeen City and Shire and is vital in cementing the importance of tourism at both a local and national level.
“Scottish tourism is extremely resilient and I believe this award goes a long way to highlight the hard work and commitment which has gone into developing Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course as a leading light in Scotland. I look forward to seeing Meldrum House Country Hotel and Golf Course again at the grand finale of this year’s Scottish Thistle Awards in November.”
Oldmeldrum and Mid Formartine Councillor Paul Johnston welcomed the news that Meldrum House had won the award saying, “Congratulations to the Meldrum House Hotel. They are both worthy winners and a great example to other local business. “They have been developing a great tourism product while serving a local market. They have been involved in the local community in promoting Oldmeldrum”
“Peter Walker and his team certainly deserve the award and the town looks forward to yet more in the years to come”
