North-east business awards entries launched

Entries for the 2012 Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise opened this week.

The awards, which are now in their 13th year, are established as one of the leading business accolades in the North-east.

Gary McEwan, from event organisers Enterprise North East Trust (Enterprise) and Mike Fergusson, from headline sponsors RBS, launched the awards on Monday at Mains of Drum garden centre, which was the recipient of the business success (under three years) award in 2011.

The awards celebrate ‘seedling’ business, businesses which can demonstrate significant growth and entrepreneurs who help other businesses and organisations to bloom.

Mr McEwan, Enterprise chief executive, said: “The Mains of Drum garden centre epitomises what the Grampian Awards for Business Enterprise are about - growing business from small seeds and the external factors required to do so.

“Our judges look for a combination of hard work, enthusiasm, understanding of products and financials and especially an understanding of a business’s client base. We also look for how a business is planning for its future development and growth. The awards ceremony in June is an opportunity for enterprises to showcase and celebrate their achievements and further raise their profile.”

Shortlisted entries will be notified on May 8 and invited to attend the awards ceremony at Mercure Ardoe House Hotel on Thursday June 21.The winners of the awards will each be presented with a unique handcrafted trophy.

Each award category has its own criteria and participants can enter more than one category.

Businesses and individuals can enter by completing a registration form on the Grampian Awards website; a category specific application form will then be sent to the applicant. The deadline for application submissions is midday on Friday May 4.
