KEMNAY Primary School pupil, Cassie Christie (8), is celebrating after her class design project won a competition to go on public display.
Designing her ideal home as part of the P2 / P3 Houses and Homes project, Cassie was awarded the top spot by local housebuilder Stewart Milne Homes during a special guest visit for the topic. Cassie’s design will be framed and take pride of place in the showhome of the company’s local Wellside Brae development. Classmate, Lewis Dunbar (6), won second prize with his ideal home design.
Commenting on the project, class teacher, Caroline Anderson, said: “We were delighted to be able to partner with Stewart Milne Homes for our Houses and Homes topic. Partnerships like these are so important, making learning real and relevant for children. The mini-seminar and Q&A session was particularly useful and really got the class engaged with the topic; getting them to really think about the things they had learned so far. Some of the questions were even more insightful than even the Stewart Milne team had anticipated, like ‘how much does a brick weigh?’!
“The competition was a great way to round up the project; bringing together all the experiences and outcomes of the topic in a fun and creative way. Cassie is over the moon to win first place with her design and we are all very proud to have our class’ work on display for all to see.”
Fraser Carr, the representative from Stewart Milne Homes that presented Cassie with her prize, added: “Kemnay Primary School is a close neighbour of our Wellside Brae development and we are always looking for opportunities to engage with the local community. We are delighted to be involved with the school’s project and were very impressed with the level of creativity in the competition designs. It was a tough call, but Cassie’s ideal home was bright, cheerful and remarkably detailed with her choice of living room curtains, flat screen TV and outdoor views included in the design, which really made it stand out. We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Cassie and Lewis, and thank all the children for taking part in such a fun and interesting competition.”
Cassie’s design will go on display next week at the Wellside Brae showhome on Bogbeth Road , which is open Thursday to Monday from 11am until 5.30pm.
