AT the Aberdeenshire Council Community Engagement events held in December and January discussions were held on the ways in which the local community can enter into partnership with the council to more effectively deliver services.
Community Asset Transfers were part of the discussion, where community based organisations take on publicly owned assets such as caravan parks, local halls and public toilets.
There was significant interest in acquiring and managing public assets on behalf of their communities, but concerns were raised over how to get the process started, finding the appropriate council officer to speak to and how to develop the skills required, as well as the legal, financial and procurement implications
A Community Asset Transfer event will be held in Inverurie Academy on Wednesday, November 2. To find out more about community asset transfer, contact the Garioch Area Office on (01467) 628201.
