BUDDING athletes, committed runners and fundraisers have less than two weeks to sign up for Run Garioch 2015 with registration closing on Sunday, February 22.
More than 2000 adults have already put their names down for the 5k, Dandara 10k and half marathon distances, with over 500 children planning to tackle three shorter races on Sunday, March 22.
This year marks the tenth anniversary of the Garioch 10k, and such has been its success that organisers have increased the event’s capacity to 3000 participants for 2015, due to overwhelming demand. The first Garioch 10k attracted 330 participants in 2006.
Award-winning housebuilder Dandara is once again title sponsor of the 10k race, with winners being given the chance to double their prize money if they break the course record.
Dandara’s managing director in Aberdeen, Gavin Wyley, said: “Dandara is very passionate about sport in the local community and we are thrilled to be supporting this fantastic event once again.
“We’d like to wish all those taking part in Run Garioch and the Dandara 10k the very best of luck when the starting gun fires on Sunday, March 22.”
Garioch Sports Trust, the registered charity formed in 1990 to manage the Garioch Sports Centre and encourage local residents to develop an interest in sporting activities and exercise, organises the event.
Race director Eric Simpson said, “All funds raised by Run Garioch support the Garioch Sports Trust in providing sporting facilities and opportunities for people in and around Inverurie. Funds from previous events have supported the construction of a world-class 3G-football pitch, renovations to the Centre and the purchase of gym equipment.
“We are very grateful for Dandara’s continued support of the event, especially in the 10th anniversary year of the 10k.”
