Plans to light up the Auld Brig in Ellon have taken a positive step forward recently.
Ellon Community Council and Aberdeenshire Council have worked together to come up with a design to light up the bridge, hopefully by the end of the year.
Aberdeenshire Council’s Head of Roads and Landscape Services, Philip McKay, said: “The project to light up the old bridge for aesthetic reasons, highlighting this historic grade A listed bridge, was put forward by the local community.
“Aberdeenshire Council have worked with the community to come up with a low cost design, including running costs, which will meet community aspirations. Funding for the purchase and installation of the lighting is to be provided by Aberdeenshire Council, with only a small annual sum in respect of the running costs, including electricity, being met by the community council.”
In order to meet these running costs and the maintenance of the lights, the community council plan to hold various fundraising activities throughout the year.
Chairman, Sandy McDougall said: “The community council are pleased to have reached agreement with Aberdeenshire Council regarding the funding of lighting for the Auld Brig.
“We plan to incorporate the inaugural switch on into this year’s Christmas lights switch on in November.”
