Ellon Academy has taken delivery of a hot composter system.
It allows the recycling of all canteen food waste and produces rich compost for the school garden.
Dan Welburn, who designs and makes the composters, made the journey from Devon to deliver it.
After installation last week, school staff and members of Ellon Resource Centre were introduced to the composter process.
Food waste will be put into the “chimney end” daily and an equal quantity of sawdust added. The handle is then turned to mix the contents.
Pupils from the enrichment programmme and some small curricular classes will be responsible for filling the system and turning the handle.
