A Rothienorman woman has cat-walked her way into a fabulous job with a local fashion firm thanks to her time at North East Scotland College.
When Catriona Donnelly left Meldrum Academy at the end of fifth year, she knew that she wanted to pursue a career in fashion.
Catriona, 20, graduated with an HND in Textiles, and since completing her course in June, has been working as a fashion buyer for Audacious Style, an online fashion retailer based in Aberdeen.
She started her journey into the fashion world by enrolling on the NC level course at NESCol, and she has never looked back since.
She said: “I’ve always liked fashion, I knew I wanted to leave school after fifth year, and the NC course at NESCol gave me the opportunity to start college at a level where I felt comfortable and work my way up.
“I definitely wasn’t confident enough to go straight into the HND.
“Over the three years at college we got to do a lot of learning in a work environment - we got to go out on location to take photos of textiles we had designed, and I took part in three fashion shows.
“Every year I gained more confidence – as a designer but also as a person.”
Catriona secured her job with Audacious Style after being told about the position by her guidance tutor, and she really feels that college prepared her for the role.
“I’m a fashion buyer, but because we’re a start-up company I’m getting to do a lot of things – working with our PR agency, organising photoshoots, buying in clothes, running social media pages – I’m really getting to experience all areas of the industry and it’s great.
“College helped me a lot in preparing for it.”
