A KELLANDS Primary School project supported by Aberdeenshire Council has scooped a “Green Apple” Award at a recent ceremony in Edinburgh.
Kellands Primary’s Reduce Re-uniform Recycle project, which won a Broinze Award, promoted the reuse of School uniform, collecting grown out but not worn out uniform and offering it to parents for a donation at their Christmas Fair in November 2012.
This provided a money saving alternative to parents and carers when purchasing uniform whilst reducing the amount of textiles going to landfill as well as raising funds for school.
The project involved the school’s eco group who learned about the environment, calculations and marketing.
The event proved popular and they have held two more since, as well as pop-up shops in the staff room on an ongoing basis.
As a result of the project with Kellands Primary, a good practice guide has been prepared that other schools can use to organise their own events.
