The search is on to find the brightest stars in education as the nominations open for the prestigious Scottish Education Awards 2016

People are being urged to nominate the local schools and teaching professionals that go the extra mile for recognition at the national awards ceremony which honours the hard work and innovation happening in classrooms across Scotland.

Dr Alasdair Allan, Minister for Learning, Science and Scotland’s Languages, said: “I am delighted to launch the Scottish Education Awards 2016. Across Scotland, teachers, parents, pupils and community partners are working hard to ensure that all children and young people have equal chances to reach their full potential.

“The awards help us showcase and celebrate the vast amount of fantastic work that is going on across the country.”

There is a wide variety of award categories which recognise and reward the dedication of teaching staff and educational supporters. Entry is open to all publicly funded schools including secondary, primary, nursery and special schools. If you know of a local school that shines within the community, or an exemplary teacher who motivates pupils to become confident learners now is your chance to nominate them. The closing date for nominations is Monday, February 15, 2016.

Nominations can only be accepted online and to put forward a school, teacher or anyone else who has contributed positively to education in Scotland go to go to www.scottisheducationawards.org.uk. There will also be a number of specialist category awards in gaelic teaching, sciences, technology, engineering and maths as well as languages.
