Meldrum Academy celebrates its first ten years

Meldrum Academy is celebrating its tenth anniversary in style this year.

The first big event of the celebration was in August when the whole school posed for School Community Photograph which included over 1,000 pupils and staff.

The Meldrum Academy Parent Council organised a concert in September featuring Scotland’s finest traditional musicians, Phil Cunningham and Aly Bain. The event was a sell out. They also arranged a special bottling of miniature whisky with labels designed by current S6 pupils, which were sold on the night.

The school will hold an Open Afternoon on Friday, October 5 from 2.15pm until 6pm and an Open Morning on Saturday, October 6 from 10am until 1pm.

A group of parents, staff and friends of the school have been busy sewing individual squares that will collectively make a commemorative wall hanging. The finished wall hanging will be unveiled at the Open Day and the school archives will be on show with displays of photographs, newspaper articles, year books, school shows and end of term presentations.

A warm invitation is extended to current and former pupils, parents and members of the public.

On Wednesday, October 10 the pupils will hold the Meldrum Academy Highland Games when the school houses Bruce, Glennie, Slessor, Telford and Wallace will battle it out to compete in traditional and fun games for the Tenth Anniversary Shield.

Another event planned is the start of the Meldrum Academy Eco Group Sensory Garden.
