Ellon Academy’s new swimming pool is to remain closed until next weekend.
A fault in its cleansing system meant the facility at the new community campus could not open on Thursday when pupils began attending the Cromleybank complex.
Although test results are now satisfactory, the pool is to go through a further chlorination process and deep clean.
Allan Whyte, Aberdeenshire Council’s head of property, said: “We and our main contractor Farrans are making every effort to get the pool ready to open on Saturday, August 29, and will test and clean the new pool to ensure it can be enjoyed by everyone.
“Again, I am sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank everyone for their patience.”
The existing pool in the town’s Schoolhill Road is open and can be used by the public in the meantime for lessons and club use with the timetable remaining unchanged.
Meanwhile, showering facilities are now available in the rest of the new building but bottled water is still in use as a precautionary measure, as further water quality tests will be undertaken.
